Nanosys unveiled its new Quantcom Dot Enhancement Film (QDEF), marking the first time that the nanotechnology is available for LCD manufacturers. Its optical film can deliver up to 60 percent of all colors visible to human eye, compared with the 20 to 25 percent the most displays offer. Nanosys engineers suspended a blend of quantum dots within optical film applied it to blue LED, helped get the Nano crystals excited. The dots emitted high quality white light and a rich, wide color gamut, without consuming as mush power as white LED based materials. Sony Ericsson Xperia Play hits the first US carrier to offer the PlayStation Phone, will be available for pre-order on carriers website starting by May 19th and will be available on stores by May 26th for the usual $199.99 on a two year contract. This is the first PlayStation certified handset with console style controls D-pad and PlayStation face and shoulder buttons and some miniature touchpads. You will get seven games preloaded on the device. As Verizon also notes, those opting for the phone will have to sign up for both a NationWide Talk Plan and a smartphone data package as well, which start at $39.99 a month, with unlimited plan you can be at $29.99. The Windows Phone Dev Podcast made some screenshots of Windows Phone 7 last week that revealed some new features of the mobile OS. The Mango update includes support for Facebook chat and Office 365 and some revamped games hub that suggests even more Xbox Live integration option. The Lock screen is apparently shows the album art, if there is a song currently playing, it seems there will be some new group messaging options. These messages are unconfirmed by Microsoft, but you can judge from the screen shots.
Microsofts still born Courier, a dual-screen device. It made its appearance in this weeks CHI conference in Vancouver, seeing how Microsoft Research apparently played a role in its development. But this gadget presented by the University of Marylands Nicholas Chen, is clearly awesome looking one at that. The reader actually has one screen; it can connect wirelessly with other units, letting the users do things like send links between devices. It can clip automatically to another unit.
