While most of us are still trying to figure how iTether temporarily snuck into the App Store, the developers behind that software have returned with a new version that skirts Apple’s guidelines entirely. While Tether.com has standard apps available for BlackBerry and Android users, the new approach on iOS relies on creating an ad-hoc network from a PC, and then visiting the appropriate webpage on the iPhone. Log in to the website, and the company’s “patent-pending” software does the job of tying the two connections together wirelessly through the magic of HTML5, no jailbreaking or other hackery needed. The cost for the service is $30 a year, although it’s currently available for the first year at $15.

For those who worried about the battery life of your expensive EV, Envia has revealed a new cell that boasts a record breaking energy density of 400Wh/kg (most currently offer between 100 and 150). It’s estimated that when commercialized, this could bring the cost of a 300-mile range EV down to as little as $20,000. The performance gains come from a special manganese-rich cathode and silicon-carbon nano-composite anode combination. The battery maker is also partly owned by GM, which unsurprisingly means we’re likely to see these very cells in its EVs in the future. For more info read the press release.

As you can see in the image below, starting today all iPad 2 SKUs at Radio Shack are getting $20-50 lopped off their prices, which sure seems like a good way to clear out stock to make room for a newer, pricier version. So, is this more evidence of the iPad 3, or just a retailer trying to move more product? We’ll know for sure next week.
