Nanosys unveiled its new Quantcom Dot Enhancement Film (QDEF), marking the first time that the nanotechnology is available for LCD manufacturers. Its optical film can deliver up to 60 percent of all colors visible to human eye, compared with the 20 to 25 percent the most displays offer. Nanosys engineers suspended a blend of quantum dots within optical film applied it to blue LED, helped get the Nano crystals excited. The dots emitted high quality white light and a rich, wide color gamut, without consuming as mush power as white LED based materials. No words yet on when we can see the QDEF in consumer displays, but Nanosys claims the film is process ready and easy for manufacturers to integrate. For more details read the press release.

Sony Ericsson mystery handset might have actually become a real smartphone. Sony Ericsson Xperia Play hits the first US carrier to offer the PlayStation Phone, will be available for pre-order on carriers website starting by May 19th and will be available on stores by May 26th for the usual $199.99 on a two year contract. Toshiba just enters the pixel density wars at SID 2011. The company shows the range of LCDs for cellphones, it shows fine 367ppi on its 4-inch HD with 720*1280 resolution model.
