Learn how to use Album on your HTC One M8. Easily see all your favorite photos in one place.

Viewing photos and videos by album

  • On the Gallery apps main screen, swipe to the Albums tab.
  • Tap a tile to open an album.
  • Tap a photo or video to see it in full screen.

Viewing photo highlights

Easily see all your favorite photos in one place. Gallery automatically groups all your most viewed or shared photos (your highlights) in one album. You can also manually edit the Highlights album.

  • To view these favorite photos, open the Highlights album.
  • To manually add a photo, find and view the photo in full screen, tap the photo, and then tap Favorite icon.
  • To remove a photo from the Highlights album, press and hold the thumbnail and then tap Remove.

Copying or moving photos or videos to another album

  • On the Gallery apps main screen, swipe to the Albums tab.
  • Tap a tile to open an album.
  • Tap Menu icon > Move to or Copy to.
  • Select the photos or videos you want to move or copy and then tap Next.
  • Select an album to move or copy the photos or videos to. To create a new album to move or copy to, tap + icon.

Note

To move or copy a single photo or video, open an album and then press and hold the photo or video. Choose whether to move or copy the photo or video and then select the destination album or create a new album.

Showing or hiding albums

Have too many albums cluttering up Gallery? You can choose to show or hide albums.

  • On the Gallery apps main screen, swipe to the Albums tab.
  • Tap Menu icon > Show/hide albums and choose which albums you’d like to show or hide.

Renaming an album

If you have created albums to organize photos, you can rename these albums.

  • On the Gallery app’s Albums tab, press and hold the album that you want to rename.
  • Tap Rename.

Note

Some albums, such as Camera shots and Highlights, cannot be renamed.

Viewing photos by location

Using Map view, you can view photos according to location.

Note: Only photos with geo-tag info appear on the map.

  • On the Gallery apps main screen, swipe to the Locations tab. You’ll see tiles of photos taken at specific locations, with numbers that indicate how many photos were taken in each location.
  • Tap Map icon to display Map view.
  • Zoom out or pan across the map until a numerical location indicator Location icon appears. The number in the location indicator shows how many photos were taken in that area.
  • Tap the location indicator to see the photos taken in that area.

Note

Want to know where you took a particular photo? While viewing the photo in full screen, tap anywhere on the screen, and then tap Menu icon > Show on map. (Show on map is available when you’ve enabled Geo-tag photos in Camera.)

Adding location information

Want to specify more than just the city? You can add names of points of interests (POI) to your photos too.

  • On the Gallery apps main screen, swipe to the Locations tab.
  • Tap a tile to open it.
  • Swipe to the Places tab.
  • Tap Tap to edit location > Add a new place.
  • Tap a point of interest to add a POI from Foursquare or tap New place to manually enter a new name.
  • Tap Save.

Changing location information

  • On the Gallery apps main screen, swipe to the Locations tab.
  • Tap a tile to open it.
  • Swipe to the Places tab.
  • Find the grouping you want to rename, then tap . . . icon and try one of the following:
    • Selecting another POI: 1. Tap Edit location > Tap to edit location. 2. Tap a point of interest to add a POI from Foursquare or tap New place to manually enter a new name. 3. Tap Save.
    • Renaming the location: 1. Tap Rename this place. 2. Enter a new name. 3. Tap Save. You’ll only see Rename this place if the name is stored on HTC One.

Finding matching photos

Looking for photos of a specific person or thing? Use Image match to find photos faster instead of browsing through Gallery.

  • On the Gallery apps main screen, swipe to the Timeline, Albums, or Locations tab.
  • Tap Search icon and find a photo that is visually similar to what you want to find.
  • Tap the photos that are most similar to what you want to find and do one of the following:
    • Tap Continue to refine the search.
    • Tap Finish to see the results.
  • On the Images matched screen, select all of the images you want to save to a new album, and then tap Save.

Note

You can also find matching images while viewing a photo in full screen. Tap Menu icon > Image match.
