Learn how to Edit Photos on your HTC One M8. Make your pictures even better. Gallery has an array of editing tools that let you crop, rotate, apply and create photo filters, and much more to your photos.

  • In Gallery, open the photo you want in full screen, tap it, and then tap Edit icon.
  • Do any of the following:
    • Tap Edit icon to apply a special effect to the photo.
    • Tap Filter icon to apply a filter to the photo.
    • Tap Image icon to add a decorative frame to the photo.
    • Tap Select icon to draw, rotate, crop, flip, or straighten the photo.
  • Tap Save.

Note: Except for when applying rotation, edited photos are saved as copies of the original.

Drawing on a photo

Get more creative with your photos or highlight an interesting part.

  • In Gallery, open the photo you want in full screen, tap it, and then tap Edit icon.
  • Tap Select icon > Draw.
  • Tap Color icon and then choose a pen stroke, color, and thickness.
  • Draw on the photo.
  • Tap Done > Save icon. The edited photo is saved as a copy. The original photo remains unedited.

Applying custom filters to photos

Note: Filters can only be applied to photos that are stored locally.

  • In Gallery, open the photo you want in full screen, tap it, and then tap Edit icon.
  • Tap Filter icon > + icon. You’ll find at the right end of the predefined filters bar.
  • On the Custom Effects screen you can:
    • Make changes to the filter by adjusting the controls on exposure, saturation, white balance, and more.
    • Rearrange filters to modify the effect. Press and hold the filter you want to move. Then drag it to a new position.
    • Remove filters. Press and hold the filter you want to remove. Then drag it to Remove.
    • Tap + icon to add more filters.
  • Tap Save Preset to name your filter and save it. After saving your filter, you’ll see a preview of your photo with the filter applied.
  • Tap Save icon to save the modified photo as a new photo.

Copying and pasting photos

Note: You can use Copy & Paste with photos that clearly show human faces.

  • In Gallery, open the photo you want in full screen, tap it, and then tap Edit icon.
  • Tap Edit icon > Cut icon.
  • Find the photo you want to copy a person from and tap it.
  • Tap a face to select a person. You can refine your selection by using the + icon or icon tools.

Note: Tap Zoom icon to zoom and pan for a more accurate selection.

  • Tap Done to finish copying.
  • Try any of the following:
    • Scaling the copy: Slide two fingers together or apart.
    • Rotating the copy: Rotate two fingertips on the screen.
    • Moving the copy: Drag the copy to a new position.
    • Placing the copy behind another person: 1. Tap place copy icon. 2. Tap a face to select a person. 3. Tap Done. If you want to change the order, tap Up or down icon.
  • Tap Done > OK icon.

Viewing Pan 360 photos

  • On the Gallery apps main screen, swipe to the Timeline, Albums, or Locations tab.
  • Tap a tile to open the thumbnail view.
  • When you see the Pan 360 photo you want, tap it to view in full screen. You can identify Pan 360 photos by the Pan icon on the thumbnail.
  • Tap Pan icon to explore the Pan 360 photo.
  • Try any of the following:
    • Tilt HTC One or drag your finger on the screen to pan the photo.
    • Tap the rotation indicator at the top left corner to re-center the photo.
    • Slide two fingers together or apart to zoom the photo.
    • Rotate two fingers to rotate the photo.
    • Tap Save icon to save the current view of the photo.
