Skype announced today that it has reached an agreement to snatch up Groupme, the mobile group messaging service that made a splash at Google I/O. Outfit head honcho Tony Bates told TechCrunch that Skype needs to invade the mobile space if it hopes to reach its goal of scoring one billion users, and cites Groupme’s “sticky group messaging experience” as the ideal mobile addition to the Skype family. It is been four months since Sony Ericsson revealed the W8 Walkman handset, now Sony Ericsson has unleashed a new Walkman phone. The new Sony Ericsson Live (yes, it is the phone’s name) is an Android Walkman phone, powered by a 1GHz processor and features a 3.2 inch, capacitive touchscreen (with somewhat disappointing HVGA resolution), a five mega-pixel AF shooter with 8x digital zoom, and a front-facing VGA camera capable of capturing HD video in 720p. Well, it’s official, the HP TouchPad is currently at the top of Amazon’s electronics sales list. Samsung has officially launched another smartphone in the Galaxy line up. The HTC Inside has leaked some picture and some specs of the new device Eternity. It features 4.7-inch WVGA SuperLCD display, this is the worlds next WP7 SuperPhone. Some of the specs are single-core 1.5GHz processor, 8MP camera with auto focus and dual LED flash, a 720p movie mode, front facing 1.3MP camera, 16GB of internal storage, DLNA support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and 1,650mAh battery. The windows phone followers can expect a Mango Update will indeed be necessary before the front-facing camera becomes useful. No words yet on pricing and release date yet.

The Sprint Galaxy tab users are the lucky first ones to get the Android 3.1 update and its resizable widgets. The Now Network will push out an update to Gingerbread, something Tab users overseas have already been enjoying. The upgrades expected to roll out starting July 5th, includes not just Android 2.3, but a step to HID Bluetooth as well. Sprint also releases a fix for the bug in the Samsung Transform that has interfered with PRL and data profile updates.

MediaMall launched the beta for PlayLater this week, the worlds first DVR for online video. The idea of a DVR for the internet sounds good, it got an accurate facilities description; pick a network (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc.,), a show, and an episode, and PlayLater downloads your selection to your computers hard drive. PlayLater pulls down it wraps in a neat layer of DRM, locks that content to the PC that downloaded it. Time-shifting Hulu will costs $5 a month, beta teasers can score free month for trying it out.
