Android One Smartphones Get Lollipop By End Of Jan
This year Google launched the Android One initiative, which has so far been comprised of three smartphones: the Micromax Canvas A1, the Karbonn Sparkle V, and the Spice Dream Uno. These all have the exact same innards, which were specified by Google, and their unique selling point is supposed to be the fact that Google itself will handle OS updates.
That said, the search giant has been extremely quiet and hasn't said when it would issue the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Android One devices. However, Spice says it will deliver the Lollipop update for the Dream Uno by the end of January.
Since Google is in charge of the roll-out, we assume the time frame will be the same for the other two Android One phones. But the update may come even sooner, as an unnamed source inside Google reportedly told an Indian publication that it could land as early as mid-December.
Since the Nexus devices have already received their Lollipop bits, some owners of Android One handsets may have been wondering what's going on. Apparently while the fact that Google is handling updates does mean these phones will get updated to new OS versions, it doesn't mean they'll get them as fast as the Nexus line.
