Learn how to encrypt data on your HTC One Max . You can encrypt data such as your online accounts, settings, music files and other media. After encryption, you will need to enter the screen lock PIN or password to turn on your phone and access the data.

Phone storage encryption

Note: Set a lock screen PIN or password before encrypting your data. Fully charge the battery and keep HTC One max connected to the power adapter during encryption. The encryption process takes about an hour. You cannot undo encryption. If you want to return to an unencrypted phone, you must perform a factory reset.

  • Go to Settings, and then tap Storage.

  • Tap Phone storage encryption.

  • Tap Encrypt.

  • Enter the lock screen PIN or password, and tap Next.

  • Tap Encrypt.

Encryption starts and the progress is displayed. The phone may restart a few times. When the encryption process is complete, enter your PIN or password.

Storage card encryption

You can encrypt files on your storage card to protect your files. Storage card encryption doesn’t reformat or erase your card. Storage card files encrypted on the phone can be used only on the phone.

Note: Set a lock screen PIN or password before encrypting your data. Fully charge the battery and keep HTC One max connected to the power adapter during encryption. Only files added to the storage card after enabling encryption will be encrypted. Existing files will not be encrypted.

  • Go to Settings, and then tap Storage.

  • Tap File level SD card encryption

  • Tap Encrypt.

  • Enter the lock screen PIN or password, and tap Next.

  • Tap Encrypt.

Encryption starts and the progress is displayed. The storage card will be unavailable during encryption.

You can stop encrypting new files by clearing the File level SD card encryption option. Previously encrypted files will remain encrypted. To access these files, you must enable File level SD card encryption again.
