If you have been using Android Google Search app then you may have noticed that when you search for someone in your Google Contacts using the Android Google Search app, it will display their along with some quick shortcuts in the Search bar.

This recent finding came from Google+ user James Scott Jr, who saw the Google Search app showing results of Google Contacts with links to call, text, or email in the search results.

This new functionality seems like a server-side change and it does not seem to be linked to any specific version of the Google search app or Google Play Services. Google is known for updating its search servers and testing new features with a small number of users before releasing it to everyone. So, we may be seeing this new feature rolling out to more users soon.
