Here’s an interesting tidbit we missed while scouring through BMW’s massive press release on the 2012 M5. According to the text, BMW has employed a system it’s calling “Active Sound Design” on the new M5, which takes in engine speed and load data from the ECU and plumbs it through the stereo to play a real-time recording of the M5’s engine.

Purdue University students are designing and building a rocket engine that might be used in a vehicle to land on the moon. Graduate students Thomas Feldman and Andrew Rettenmaier are part of a team developing a thrust chamber for NASA’s Project Morpheus, which includes research to develop new technologies for future trips to the moon, Mars or asteroids.The rocket must meet stringent design and performance specifications related to factors including efficiency, size and weight limits, thrust and the ability to dynamically throttle the rocket from 1,300-4,200 pounds of thrust, Feldman said.

Nissan Motor Co. revealed what might just be the world’s cheapest quick-charge station. Priced below $10,000 and set to go on sale in November, Nissan’s newly-developed quick-charge unit takes up significantly less space than most competing Level 3 chargers and is supposedly easier to install, too. Officially, Nissan says the just-revealed quick charger will be a “great value to customers because it will cost significantly less than one million yen”.

Two big giants Volvo and Siemens collaboratively announced their upcoming project about Electric cars. They closely working on vehicles equipped with electric drive motors especially Siemen’s C30 DRIVE.
