The Researchers from Tufts University have built a robot that is able to mimic the way a caterpillar balls itself up to bounce away from predators. As you see the videos we had given, while the robot is quite bigger than the actual bug, is does indeed to do a good caterpillar intimation. The researchers says that the ballistic rolling behaviour could be used to improve on some of the many existing robots that are modelled on worms or snakes which could let them fling themselves into disaster area, and then wiggle around to aid in search and rescue operations.
