Learn how to use web browser on your Nokia Lumia 630. Catch up on the news, and visit your favorite websites. You can use Internet Explorer 11 in your phone to view web pages on the internet. Your browser can also help warn you against security threats.

  • Tap Internet Explorer icon.
  • To browse the web, you must be connected to the internet.

Browse the web

Who needs a computer, when you can browse the internet on your phone?

Note: If your network service provider doesn’t charge you a fixed fee for data transfer, to save on data costs, use a Wi-Fi network to connect to the internet.

  • Tap Internet Explorer icon.
  • Tap the address bar.
  • Write a web address.

Note: To quickly write a web address suffix such as .org, tap and hold the suffix key on the keyboard, and tap the suffix you want.

  • Tap Next icon.

Note: To search the internet, write a search word in the address bar, and tap Next icon.

Zoom in or out

  • Place 2 fingers on the screen, and slide your fingers apart or together.

Note: You can also double-tap the screen.

Open a new tab

When you want to visit several websites at the same time, you can open new browser tabs and switch between them.

  • Tap Internet Explorer icon.
  • Tap New Tab > + icon.

Note: To open tabs youre browsing on other devices, swipe left to other.

Switch between tabs

  • Tap New icon and the tab you want.

Close a tab

  • Tap New > Close icon.

Change the browser mode

Too much zooming? Trouble reading the text on websites? You can use your browser in mobile or desktop mode, or switch certain web pages to the reading view and set the font size to your liking.

  • To set the browser to always use the mode you want, tap Internet Explorer > . . . > settings.
  • Change the setting for Website preference.

Switch to the reading view

  • Tap Read icon on the address bar. To set the font size for the reading view, tap . . . > settings > advanced settings > Reading view font size.

Note: To learn more about the browser settings and what they do, tap the link at the bottom of the screen.

Add a website to your favorites

If you visit the same websites all the time, add them to your favorites, so you can access them quickly. Tap Internet Explorer icon.

  • Go to a website.
  • Tap . . . > add to favorites.
  • Edit the name if you want to, and tap Save icon.

Note: You can also pin your favorite websites to the start screen. While browsing a website, tap . . . > pin to start.

  • Tap . . . > favorites and a website.

Note: To quickly access your favorites, add the favorites icon to the address bar. Tap . . . > settings, and switch Use address bar button for to favorites.

Clear the browser history

When you’ve finished browsing, you can delete your private data, such as your browsing history and temporary internet files.

  • Tap Internet Explorer icon.
  • Tap . . . > settings > delete history. A cache is a memory location that is used to store data temporarily. If you have, or have tried to, access confidential info or a secure service, requiring passwords, clear the cache after each use.

Delete an individual item in your browsing history

  • Tap . . . > recent > Menu icon, the item you want to delete, and Delete icon.

Search the web

Explore the web and the outside world with Bing search. You can use the keyboard or your voice to write your search words.

  • Press Search Key.
  • Write your search word in the search box, and tap Next icon. You can also select a search word from the proposed matches.
  • To see related search results, swipe left to see the different search result categories.

Close internet connections

Save your battery by closing internet connections that are open in the background. You can do it without closing any apps.

  • On the start screen, swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap WiFi icon.
  • Switch Wi-Fi networking to Off icon.

Note: Wi-Fi networking switches back on automatically. To change this setting, tap Turn Wi-Fi back on.

Close a mobile data connection

  • On the start screen, swipe down from the top of the screen, tap ALL SETTINGS > cellular+SIM, and switch Data connection to off icon.
