Learn how to use motions on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. By activating the various motion and gesture features, you can access a variety of time saving functions.

Terms Used in This User Manual

Touch

Lightly touch items to select or launch them. For example:

  • Touch the onscreen keyboard to enter characters or text.
  • Touch a menu item to select it.
  • Touch an applications icon to launch the application.

Touch and Hold

Activate onscreen items by a touch and hold gesture. For example:

  • Touch and hold a widget on the home screen to move it.
  • Touch and hold on a field to display a pop-up menu of options.

Swipe and Palm Swipe

To swipe, lightly drag your finger vertically or horizontally across the screen. Use swipe when:

  • Unlocking the screen
  • Scrolling through the Home screen or a menu

To palm swipe, swipe the side of your hand horizontally across the screen. Use palm swipe when:

  • Capturing the screen

Pinch

Use two fingers, such as your index finger and thumb, to make an inward pinch motion on the screen, as if you are picking something up, or an outward motion by
sweeping your fingers out. For example:

  • Pinch a photo in Gallery to zoom in.
  • Pinch a webpage to zoom in or out.

Motion Control

Note: Excessive shaking or impact to the device may cause unintended results.

To learn how to properly control motions:

  • From a Home screen, touch Apps icon > Settings icon > Controls.
  • Under MOTION CONTROL, touch Palm motion or Smart screen. When touched, each entry comes with an onscreen tutorial.

Activating Palm Motion

  • Use Palm motion to control your device by touching the screen with your entire hand.

To activate Palm motion:

  • From a Home screen, touch Apps icon > Settings icon > Controls.
  • Touch the OFF / ON button next to Palm motion to turn it ON icon.
  • Touch Palm motion.
  • Touch the OFF / ON button to the right of each feature to turn it ON.

Note

This guide will work on all Samsung Galaxy Tabs; including Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0, Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1.
