Toshiba Laptops Will Get A Dedicated Cortana Button
Microsoft’s voice activated digital assistant Cortana is one of the major features coming to Windows 10. Now Toshiba wants to give her a special treatment by giving a dedicated Cortana button in all of their upcoming Windows 10 laptops.
Toshiba will place the Cortana key close to the function keys in their Windows 10 laptops, said Jeff Barney, general manager and vice president of Toshiba America’s PC business, to PC World. Barney added that the feature would be included in all of the company’s Windows 10 PCs, “across the board, top to bottom.”
If a user wants to use the Cortana feature on Windows 10, he or she has to either tap the Cortana icon on the screen or move the mouse to trigger the service. Placing a dedicated Cortana button on the keyboard is a smart idea, especially if the service proves to be a hit. A dedicated Cortana key would be one of the more significant changes to the keyboard since the introduction of Windows key in 1995 as a Windows 95 feature.
The addition of a tactile Cortana key will help relieve the voice-activated-trigger issues that have plagued Microsoft’s digital assistant. It also means users will not have to find and click on an on-screen Cortana button with their mouse in order to fire it up. Barney said the special key ensures that “Cortana is listening when you want it to”.
