Apple Car Rumored To Be Under Development At A Small Lab In Germany
A recent report claims that Apple has set up a small lab in Berlin, Germany dedicated to its long-rumored Apple car project. According to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (also known as F.A.Z.), Apple’s clandestine facility employs between 15 and 20 “top class” men and women from the German automotive industry, with backgrounds in engineering, software, hardware, and sales.
Approximately 15 to 20 men and women, “top-class from the German automotive industry” are mentally tinkering on the car of the future in the capital. The employees come from engineering, software, hardware and sales. They are relatively young people with a “progressive thinking”.
The report reiterates previous rumors and adds that Apple Car will be the company’s first electric car, but will lack self-driving capabilities as the required technology is still in development.
Apple Car rumors have gained momentum since early 2015, when The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple has hundreds of employees working to develop an electric vehicle under the codename “Project Titan”. The bulk of research and development is thought to be taking place in an Apple-leased Sunnyvale campus in California.
Apple is also said to be looking to manufacture the car in Austria. The company is reportedly in talks with Magna, a contract-manufacturing firm.
Earlier this year, Tim Cook teased about the possibility of an Apple Car in February by saying, “it’s going to be Christmas Eve for a while”, and rumors believe that Apple is aiming to produce an all-electric vehicle by 2019 or 2020.
