Define how your phone connects to the internet
Does your network service provider charge you a fixed fee for data transfer, or on a pay as you use basis? To use the optimal connection method, change the Wi-Fi and mobile data settings.
- From the start screen, swipe left and tap Settings icon.
About Wi-Fi connections
Connecting to a Wi-Fi network is a handy way of accessing the internet. When out and about, you can connect to Wi-Fi networks in public places, such as a library or internet caf.
- From the start screen, swipe left and tap Settings icon > WiFi.
Note: Using Wi-Fi may be restricted in some countries. For example, in the USA and Canada, you are only allowed to use 5.15 -5.25 GHz Wi-Fi indoors. For more information, contact your local authorities.
Connect to a Wi-Fi network

Tap Wi-Fi and switch Wi-Fi networking to On.

Select the desired connection.
Using a Wi-Fi connection is generally faster and less expensive than using a cellular data connection.
Note: Your phone periodically checks for and notifies of available connections. The notification appears briefly at the top of the screen. To manage your Wi-Fi connections, tap the notification.
Connect to a hidden Wi-Fi

Make sure WiFi networking is switched to On.

Tap advanced > + Add icon.

Enter the network name, and tap add.
Use a cellular data connection when roaming

From the start screen, swipe left and tap Settings icon > cellular.

Tap Data connection, and on.

Tap Data roaming options > roam.
Data roaming means using your phone to receive data over networks that your network service provider doesnt own or operate. Connecting to the internet when roaming, especially when abroad, can raise data costs substantially. Mobile data access points are usually sent to you by your network service provider. You can manually add access points.
Close a network connection
If an application in the background is using an internet connection, you can close the connection without closing the application.
- From the start screen, swipe left and tap Settings icon.
Close all Wi-Fi connections

From the start screen, swipe left and tap Settings icon > WiFi.

Switch WiFi networking to Off.
Close all cellular data connections

From the start screen, swipe left and tap Settings icon > cellular.

Tap Data connection, and tap off.

Tap Data roaming options > dont roam.
Close all network connections

From the start screen, swipe left and tap Settings icon > airplane mode.

Switch Status to On.
Share your mobile data connection
Want to use the internet on your laptop but dont have access? You can make your phone the hotspot for your laptop or other devices. A Wi-Fi connection is then created.

Swipe left, and tap Settings icon > internet sharing.

Switch Sharing to On.

To change the name of your connection, tap setup > broadcast name, and write a name.
Note: You can also type in a password for the connection.

Tap the connection on the other device. The other device uses data from your data plan, which may result in data traffic costs. For information on availability and costs, contact your network service provider.
