Google is reportedly in the final stages of Android Wear App for iPhone, which will allow Android powered Smartwatches to hook up with Apple’s hardware.
Google is reportedly in the final stages of Android Wear App for iPhone, which will allow Android powered Smartwatches to hook up with Apple’s hardware. Android Wear and the upcoming Apple Watch are platform-specific, forcing potential users to switch their phone OS of choice if they want a device intended for the other ecosystem.
Currently the app supports basic functions like notifications from iOS apps including FaceTime. The app also adds some advanced features for Google iOS apps such as handling and replying to Gmail messages, Google Now’s ambient information cards, voice search and other voice actions.

Of course, even if Google irons out any lingering technical issues, that has not to say the app will ever, make it to the App Store. Apple has a history of rejecting apps that mention competing platforms. It also has a guideline for App developers (section 3.1) that forbid them to mention the name of other mobile platforms. Considering all this and Apple Watch is the biggest launch event for Apple, it will be interesting to see how Apple respond to the Android Wear App for iPhone.
