Data breach hits JP Morgan and Kroger Customers

Reuters again reported about data breach happening around. This time JP Morgan Chase & Co, Kroger Co customers was exposed as a part of data breach online marketing vendor.

The data breach includes some email addresses of JP Morgan Chase customers and names and email ids of Kroger customers, the companies said in separate statements on Friday. Epsilon, a unit of Alliance Data Systems Corp, said that person outside the company hacked into some of its clients customer files. The vendor sends over 40 billion email ads and offers annually, usually to people who register for companys website or give their email address while shopping.

Kroger the biggest US super market operator, said it told the customers on Friday that the database storing their names and email addresses had been breached and no other personal information are breached, Kroger said.

Epsilon told the bank that accessed the files did not include any customers financial information. But JP Morgan is actively investigating in this. Spokeswoman Jessica Simon declined to identify which other Epsilon clients are infected by the data breach. The vendors are now cooperating with the number of authorities now, so I dont know how long it (the investigation) will take, she said.
