Android M May Get Fingerprint Authentication
Google is expected to announce Android M at the Google IO developer conference next week. Now, according to reports from Buzzfeed and ArsTechnica, Google’s next version of Android – called Android M, will have native support for fingerprint authentication.
It would not really be a surprise if this happened, as there have been hints in AOSP that fingerprint readers were a planned feature, and even Motorola’s former CEO Dennis Woodside said the Nexus 6 was originally supposed to have one.
Currently none of Google’s Nexus device supports Fingerprint sensors. This means either the fingerprint feature will not work until Google releases a new Nexus smartphone later in the year with a fingerprint sensor, or the company will launch a new smartphone at their event next week, which is highly unlikely.
I hope that we will find out more details at Google IO. Until then, we should take all the rumors with a grain of salt.
