Learn how to use WiFi on your Samsung Galaxy Mega. Wi-Fi (short for “wireless fidelity”and sometimes referred to as wifi) is a term used for certain types of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). These device types use an 802.11 wireless specification to transmit and receive wireless data. Wi-Fi communication requires access to an existing and accessible Wireless Access Point (WAP). These WAPs can either be Open (unsecured) as within most Hot Spots, or Secured (requiring knowledge of the Router name and password).

Turning Wi-Fi On

  • By default, your devices Wi-Fi feature is turned off. Turning Wi-Fi on makes your device able to discover and connect to compatible in-range WAPs.

  • From the home screen, tap App > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.

  • Tap the ON/OFF slider, located to the right of the Wi-Fi field, to turn Wi-Fi ON icon.

Connect to a Wi-Fi Network

  • From the Home screen, tap App > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.

  • The network names and security settings (Open network or Secured with WEP) of detected Wi-Fi networks are displayed in the Wi-Fi networks section.

  • Tap the network you want to connect to.

Note: When you select an open network, you will be automatically connected to the network.

  • Enter a wireless password if necessary.

Manually add your new network connection

  • From the Home screen, tap App > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.

  • Tap Add Wi-Fi network.

  • Enter the Network SSID. This is the name of your Wireless Access Point.

  • Tap the Security field and select a security option. This must match the current security setting on your target WAP.

  • If secured, you will also need to enter your WAPs password.

  • Tap Show advanced options, if you need to add advanced options such as Proxy settings, IP settings, or Key management.

  • Tap Connect to store the new information and connect to your target WAP.

Note: The next time your device connects to a previously accessed or secured wireless network, you are not prompted to enter the WAP key again, unless you reset your device back to its factory default settings.

Turning Wi-Fi Off

  • From the Home screen, tap App > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.

  • Tap the ON/OFF slider, located to the right of the Wi-Fi field, to turn Wi-Fi OFF icon.

  • Displays when there is a Wi-Fi access point available but you are not connected to it. May also display if there is a communication issue with the target Wireless Access Point (WAP).

  • Displays when connected to another device using Wi-Fi Direct.

Wi-Fi Advanced Settings
