Microsoft Introduces Hyper-V To “Windows 8”

In an interesting twist, Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 8 will feature the first-rate, enterprise-echelon Hyper-V machine virtualization hypervisor. This will mean that Windows 8 users will be able to run almost every other operating system inside a window, including Windows 7 and XP, SUSE and Red Hat Linux, and more (including Ubuntu) with a little hacking. Prior to Windows 8, Hyper-V was only available in Windows Server 2008 or as a standalone OS.
Skype Adds Groupme To Social Portfolio, Targets Mobile Market

Skype announced today that it has reached an agreement to snatch up Groupme, the mobile group messaging service that made a splash at Google I/O. Outfit head honcho Tony Bates told TechCrunch that Skype needs to invade the mobile space if it hopes to reach its goal of scoring one billion users, and cites Groupme's "sticky group messaging experience" as the ideal mobile addition to the Skype family. While the Microsoft-Skype deal is coming to a close, this announcement has come as a surprise and it seems Redmond's about to get more than it initially bargained for.
MediaMall’s PlayLater Brings DVR To Online Video

MediaMall launched the beta for PlayLater this week, “the world’s first DVR for online video.” The idea of a DVR for the internet sounds good, it got an accurate facilities description; pick a network (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc.,), a show, and an episode, and PlayLater downloads your selection to your computer’s hard drive. PlayLater pulls down it wraps in a neat layer of DRM, locks that content to the PC that downloaded it. Time-shifting Hulu will costs $5 a month, beta teasers can score free month for trying it out. Apple’s getting another fix in before Lion slinks on the scene. Mac OS X 10.6.8 is now available for download, and brings number of general operating system fixes, includes support for IPv6, improved VPN reliability, removal of variants in bit defender. It also promises a fix to glitch that has a Preview randomly shutting down, and will get App Store ready for when Lion lands. We are getting it going on our laptop at home. Microsoft’s Redmond unveils updates to SkyDrive, includes speed boosts, revamped UI, and improved photo viewing. The latest version of the four year old service has cute wait time on actions like clicking folders, from six to nine seconds down to 100 to 300 milliseconds. Adobe has now announced that version 2.7 will be the last official release and going forward, the people had to rely on kind-hearted persons to fire up the Linux porting kit the company providing. HP In Talks With Major Labels Over Cloud Based Service

According to Billboard, HP’s discussions with major record labels about a cloud-based service of some sort are now heating up, that is not meant as actual launch is imminent. One major label executive says Billboard that the service could be “something like Qriocity for a variety of media, which can be delivered on any HP device,” “We don’t know how serious they are,” which is not exactly encouraging thing to hear. Some of them told HP could launch such a service, while some other sources say that HP is still trying to narrow down what their service look like.

While searching for the updates in iTunes, MacRumors reader stumbled that, it eludes an “Automatic Download” feature that allows for wireless syncing. The third iteration of Linux Kernel Version 3.0.0-rc1 comes 15 years after 2.0 first hit the web and brings driver support for Microsoft Kinect – a move that should have visions of sugar plum fairies dancing in hackers’ heads. Microsoft’s going to announce some more official details about Windows 8 from now on, but until then we will just give some interesting titbits from leaked version of the OS. The batch includes a most conclusive evidence yet of Windows 8 app store, including logo in the picture, the other references at the code level – got ability to download a trial app and then unlock the full version, and the existence of things like screenshots and system requirements in the app store listings.
