To download and install the updates for Kindle Fire, follow the steps below
Check your current firmware – Tap ‘Quick Settings’, ‘More…’ and tap ‘Device’. Determine if you need to update your version software. Check the latest Kindle software
Download the latest Kindle software to your computer from Amazon, select your Kindle model.
Now its time to transfer the new software to your Kindle Fire. Turn it on and unlock it, connect it to your computer via USB. The Kindle usually appears as a ‘device’ icon on the computer. Click that icon to open it up, drag and drop the new update file from your computer to the ‘kindleupdates’ folder.
Wait for the file transfer to compete before disconnecting. Tap the ”Disconnect’ button from your Kindle Fire screen before disconnecting the USB from the computer.
Be sure your battery is fully charged before beginning the software update. To start updating the Kindle Fire, tap ‘Quick Settings’ icon, then tap ‘More…’, then ‘Device’. Choose ‘Update Your Kindle’. If you already have the latest update or the file transfer was not successful, this option will be grayed out.
During the update the Kindle Fire will restart a couple of times. When the update is complete, the screen will display the ‘Current Version: X.X’.
